Every Sunday, we turn the spotlight on some great creatives. This week, we have Robert McLaughlin!

Robert is a full-time graphic designer and self-published author.

Since he was young, Robert always had a vision about creating a book about nightmare bounty hunters in a dream world. His first novel Brass and Blood began to take shape a few years back when he asked himself, “If you could sacrifice a year to accomplish a dream, would you?” After internally answering “yes” to that question, Robert began to write. One year turned into two, which turned into three, but finally after five years of writing and revisions, his first book was complete.

Brass and Blood is a contemporary fantasy about nightmare bounty hunters that occupy a dream world. Its main focus is on Somnians, humans who can travel to a dream world and enter the dreams of others. The main theme focuses on our tendency as humans to forgo relationships in order to chase our own desires and only caring when it is convenient for us.

For Robert, dreams inspire his creative process. He imagines every chapter like a scene from a movie before writing it out, often jotting down all possible outcomes before finalizing one.

For him, being creative is enjoying that feeling of accomplishment when his work is finished.

You can follow Brass and Blood on Facebook and purchase the book on Amazon.
