Every Sunday, we turn the spotlight on some great creatives. This week, we have Deskiewicz-Flannery, owner of Cyanide Suzy Creations!

While originally from the Lehigh Valley, Susan now resides in Duryea, where she works as Lead Baker at the University of Scranton. Susan is also the owner of Cyanide Suzy Creations, a bakery that creates speciality made, horror-themed treats!

Her love for baking happened purely out of fate. She began a kitchen job in Sellersville after a very rough divorce and was handed dessert recipes and from there, something clicked! She continued to work in New Hope and became a pastry chef at Renaissance Allentown. From there, she would take on supervisory roles at Kalahari Resorts and eventually get her Pastry Arts Management degree at LCCC. Now, she leads the pastry department at Scranton University.

Susan’s baking takes inspiration from one of her ultimate passions; horror. She loves that she can create a creepy, yet delicious atrocity and finds ideas from Halloween, classic horror films, Christine McConnell, and 90s horror TV shows.

A lot of her ideas are pulled from movies, books, and artwork that have a macabre feel. She’ll normally sketch out ideas before determining how she could make it a reality and what recipes would really make it pop!

To Susan, creativity is an opportunity to express herself when she lacks the words and a way to connect with those with similar interests. Seeing people light up after eating her desserts and seeing the designs brings her so much joy.
