Every Sunday, we turn the spotlight on some great creatives. This week, we have Christine Seidita!

When she was young, Crissy’s great-grandmother taught her how to crochet. She dabbled in crocheting throughout the years, until about 10 years ago when she focused on perfecting her craft. She became a certified teacher and taught at a larger chain store until they changed their policies. That’s when she took the opportunity to open her own yarn shop in December 2019.

At the Working Yarn Shop, Crissy creates a variety of products using various yarn fibers like acrylic, cotton, polyester, and alpaca — most notably, stuffed animals. She also creates blankets, 3D-printed yarn bowls and fidget toys, as well as yarn dyeing. Crissy is also in the process of learning how to macrame and knit, with the hope that one day she will be able to offer those kinds of products in her store!

Throughout the years, Christine has honed her craft by following patterns and colors, which interestingly, has allowed her to become more creative. Other people’s works, colors, and her nieces and nephews inspire her to create her products.  In addition to running the Working Yarn Shop in Avoca, Crissy works full-time, volunteers with the Luzerne County SPCA and fosters cats (two of which currently need a home!).

You can follow her and The Working Yarn Shop on Facebook and Instagram, and visit her website to browse her products. You can also check out her storefront on 826 Main Street, Avoca PA.
