Every Sunday, NEPA Creative turns the spotlight on some awesome creatives. This week, we have Caryn Anne Hawkins!

Caryn is the owner of Caryn Anne Designs, where she sells handmade earrings online and at local vendor events in Luzerne County. Starting only recently in April 2021, making clay earrings has become a creative outlet for Caryn that helps her balance day to day life: working full-time as a print production specialist, taking care of two trouble-making felines at home in Kingston, and trying to find some rest and relaxation with her husband, Forest.

Caryn began her entrepreneurial journey with the hopes of creating jewelry that she felt suited her bold and boisterous personality but were still appropriate for a working professional. At the heart of it all, Caryn hopes to empower women with her jewelry. Every woman changes the hat she wears from moment to moment — spouse, mother, professional, or friend — and she should have jewelry that speaks true to herself and the many roles she plays.

A chief tenet to Caryn Anne Designs is keeping products at an affordable price without lessening the true value of a handmade piece. One of Caryn’s first customers was at the Garden Drive-In Craft Show in May — a woman with her young daughter. The woman explained to her daughter the value of a handmade piece of jewelry, and how special it would be to have a one-of-a-kind piece to take home from an artist. Caryn was inspired by this heartening moment (and would later be very grateful to these customers who also helped her pick up wind-blown earrings and business cards from across the gravel lot).

While she is still new to the small business world, Caryn is eager to continue learning and improving her craft. She attributes her success thus far to her family and friends for giving her the confidence and motivation to start something new.
