Every Sunday, NEPA Creative turns the spotlight on some awesome creatives. This week, we have Billy Brandenburg of Inspired Slacker Artworks!

Billy Brandenburg creates artistic visions under Inspired Slacker Artworks. During the week, he works as a science teacher for at-risk students at The Alternative Learning Center in Plains. On the weekends and other select days, he looks for venues to showcase and share his creations.

Billy has done art walks in Northeastern PA-Pittston (his hometown by the way), Wilkes-Barre (his adopted Hometown), Scranton and Honesdale. His favorite thing about these events are the outstanding people he has met along the way. Many of his fellow artists have become some of his best friends and they continue to look out for each other during their journeys. Billy has also displayed art within the walls of creative establishments like Something Special Bakery, The Grateful Roast, Coal City Smoke shop and The Black Fuse Gallery. The Inspired Slacker Artwork caravan has also moved into venues in all directions, such as North to Binghamton and Owego (New York) (Black Cat Gallery). Eastward, Billy has made friends across the Delaware in towns like Callicoon and Narrowsburg, and south to Phoenixville for punk rock flea market events.

His most recent events have been at The Black Fuse Gallery in Kingston (CURRENT DISPLAY) and a Horror Film Event at the Circle Drive-in with a creative group from Scranton. With all the events and places to be, Billy tells his fellow creatives to seek out people who have a creative spirit. He owes his mild success to the people he has met and worked with over the past decade. Without the inspiration of his fellow artists, his house would be loud with the voices of his creations. Never underestimate your diverse experience and never be afraid of failure and mistakes — they can be guides if you let them.

Billy creates Pen and Ink creations with collage elements, as well as Photographic Images. His most recent inspiration has been creating story boxes for future events.

To see more of Billy’s work, follow him on Facebook and Instagram. On those pages you will also find a wee bit of guitar playing. Looking forward starts with the now.
