Every Sunday, NEPA Creative turns the spotlight on some awesome creatives. This week, we have Scott Nichols!

Scott Nichols is a lighting artist from Seven 810 Fixtures based out of South Auburn, PA. His lighting and art career began when he quit drinking four years ago. After a lifetime of booze was cleared out, a completely different person emerged. Emotionally, mentally, and creatively — everything opened up for him.

Scott built his first lamp just to have a neat “pipe” lamp in his workshop. His wife suggested that he make another and try to sell it. Scott opened up a Facebook account and immediately started taking orders. His following grew from there, especially when he started to build lamps “around” antiques.

The custom orders got more detailed and larger by the week. Scott began using customer’s heirlooms and passed down treasures from loved ones and turning them into full blown, lit up tribute pieces. Scott brings new life to his customer’s treasures while also building something new that can be loved and enjoyed for a lifetime.

Scott’s pieces were changing and evolving into more personal, well thought out, unique and one-of-a-kind works of art. They were becoming more sculpture-like than just table lamps. Each one portrays more character and personality than the last.

Basically everything on his pieces is handcrafted unless Scott uses an item or prop. He wanted to use his imagination to bend and shape things how he wanted instead of using a recycled lamp — something that has already been given personality and shape. Scott uses all raw, straight steel and by doing that, he can create exactly what he wants without limitations.

Scott’s work has an industrial, rustic, abstract and whimsical feel and look to it. He does all types of custom work, whether it be ceiling fixtures, sconces, pendants, table and floor lamps and whatever else can be dreamed up.

Through all that he has experienced in the last four years of his life, Scott believes there is no limit on what can be done and what can be accomplished if you truly give 110% of your heart and soul into your passion. No limit.

You can find some of Scott’s work at The Strange & Unusual Oddities Parlor (in Kingston and Philly), Gallery 13 Tattoo (in Tunkhannock), Grace Antony & Co. (in Chinchilla), Art e Fekts Gallery (in Pittston), and Head to Toe Salon and Spa (in Tunkhannock).
