Every Sunday, NEPA Creative turns the spotlight on some awesome creatives. This week, we have Norbert Katarsky Jr.!
A native of Harding, PA, Norbert Katarsky Jr. currently resides in Exeter, PA. He is a graduate of Wyoming Area High School and King’s College, where he received a B.S. in Marketing and a B.A. in Mass Communications. He then went on to study Music/Entertainment Marketing at New York University and worked in Sales & Marketing for several National Companies.
Norbert has always been artistically and musically inclined. He played the trumpet, valve trombone, French Horn and other brass instruments from the 4th grade, through college and beyond. Norbert has also been involved in theater, both on the local level (Little Theater of W-B and Music Box Dinner Playhouse) and in off-off-off Broadway productions and Improvisation Groups in NYC. He only took a few art courses in high school and college, but always surrounded himself with artists, musicians, actors, authors and other creative types throughout his whole life.
Since 2014, Norbert has been retired and living with several health challenges and disabilities as well as PTSD following 9/11. During the last 2+ years, he started creating small sculptures and woodworking projects, especially since the Covid-19 Pandemic began. Norbert describes his work as “Outsider Art” where he primarily uses wood scraps combined with metal, plastic, other “refuse” and paint.
