Every Sunday, NEPA Creative turns the spotlight on some awesome creatives. This week, we have Mountain Built!
Jamie & Eric grew up in Long Island. In 2008, Eric was relocated here as an Air Traffic Controller at Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport and Jamie joined him after finishing her education degree. They fell in love with the area, got married, settled in Mountain Top and had 2 sweet little girls, Maddy (4) and Lilah (who will be 2 in June).
Because they had no family nearby to help, Jamie became a stay-at-home mom. She tutored to keep her teaching skills going through motherhood, but when the pandemic broke out, Jamie put her tutoring on hold and Eric got more time at home with the family. With this extra time, they took on more DIY projects. After a few, Jamie & Eric were convinced to go ahead and open an Etsy shop. Jamie remembers telling Eric, “Well if we sell one thing, I’ll be happy.”
Jamie designs, Eric builds, and Jamie finishes and lists it. While creating inventory, Jamie began staying up late to sand, paint, stain, and learn everything she could about both technique and business. She became obsessed. Going from being a stay-at-home mom where your daily hard work (and it is incredibly hard work) goes mostly unnoticed to the outside world to being able to step back and point to something tangible and say “I made that today” started to fill her up inside where she had been empty for a very long time.
On August 16, 2020, Jamie & Eric launched Mountain Built and immediately began getting sales. One led to 5, then 10, then 50 and so on. Jamie likes to think when people order from Mountain Built, they can feel the love behind what they do. They are so passionate about family, home life, construction and design and this work seems to tie all of that together.
Jamie & Eric have been so honored and humbled by the outpouring of support for their small business.They have big dreams for their little business and they plan on watching them all come true together.
