Every Sunday, we turn the spotlight on some great creatives. This week, we have Melanie Quintanilla!
Melanie and Natalie are two sisters who run Find and Beautify. Together, they revitalize old, rundown furniture into new pieces. With concentration and ambition, the pieces are transformed and given a new life. They also create custom home decor pieces perfect for gifts, statement pieces, or finishing touches for any room.
Their journey started when Melanie and Natalie’s friends began moving into their own apartments. Typically, their friends had plain, old furniture, or nothing at all. Melanie and Natalie wanted to help their friends out and then it clicked: they knew they could create custom furniture pieces to fit their friend’s exact style and make their apartment one-of-a-kind. Thus, Find and Beautify (F.A.B.) was born!
Their creative process begins with an old piece of furniture. They study the condition to determine what tools they’ll need to repair it. Sometimes a piece only needs cosmetic repairs, which calls for sanding it down and painting/staining the piece. However, there are times where it calls upon the sisters’ creativity to fix. When they decide to flip pieces, they give them an entirely new purpose. This could be turning a chest of drawers into a bar, or a headboard into a bench.
The environment is Find and Beautify’s main source of inspiration. They enjoy giving old items a new purpose to avoid throwing them into a landfill. Melanie and Natalie take pride in saving every piece they can.
To them, creativity is about being unrestrained from others’ expectations. It’s about letting your mind run free and trying something new.
