Every Sunday, we turn the spotlight on some great creatives. This week, we have Jenna Tully!
Jenna is a 24-year-old early childhood education student living with her girlfriend and their dog, Aspen, in Scranton, PA. She works as a barista at Northern Light Espresso Bar, and in her free time you can almost always find her outdoors!
Jenna first picked up a woodburner during quarantine. The complete opposite of a homebody, she had no clue what to do with herself during the pandemic, but knew she needed to pick up a hobby. She bought her girlfriend a custom woodburn piece for a past anniversary and looked at it one day and thought, “I could try that!” Next thing she knew, she had the opportunity to hang her new hobby at Northern Light Espresso Bar’s First Friday, and now she’s making her creations regularly!
She offers pieces of her own inspiration and creation (typically nature inspired) as wall decor, coasters and more! Jenna also offers the chance to reach out to her through Instagram, Facebook or email with custom designs. Most recently, she had a really special experience creating a name and birth sign for a newborn.
Jenna’s creative process includes delving into meditation and nature and letting her mind wander. She attended a two week national park trip over this past summer, and one of the most memorable spots was Arches National Park. As she hiked and climbed through the desert, she got to see the iconic structure, the Delicate Arch, and knew she had to sit down and recreate her view on wood! Her art is a cultivation of her passions, life experiences and the earth as she sees it.
Jenna is truly inspired everyday by nature and our Earth, as well as mindfulness, meditation, emotion and what it means to find yourself not only as an artist, but also as a person.
Jenna believes that being creative means finding yourself and your expression. Expression is the most important way she defines herself as an artist because there’s no right or wrong way of being creative. It’s about picking up a pencil or your tool of choice and creating.
