Every Sunday, NEPA Creative turns the spotlight on some awesome creatives. This week, we have Ally Ham!
Ally is originally from the Lehigh Valley area (Easton, PA) but has been living in Scranton for the last 4 years with her boyfriend and their dog Ziggy. She goes to Marywood University and is about to receive her BA in Art Therapy with a minor in Psychology.
Ally was born with a disability called Arthrogryposis, which affects the mobility in her arms and hands and other parts of her body. So the majority of the time when she paints, she actually uses her mouth!
There has always been a certain stigma around disability, and throughout life there have been a lot of people who have doubted Ally’s capabilities. Her goal is to erase the stereotypes people may have and get them to see that disabled people are capable of much more than you can even imagine.
Art has always been Ally’s therapy, her saving grace. While she may not have control over simple everyday things due to her disability, she always feels in control when it comes to her art. She wants to be able to inspire anyone, disability or not, to search within themselves and find their inner creative.
Ally is known to be mostly an acrylic/oil painter but this past year she has been dabbling a lot into mixed media and collage work as well. She wants her art to represent her soul, the very essence of her being. Everything she creates represents her and what she wants to bring to this world (positivity, growth, love, acceptance, etc.).
To see more of Ally’s work, follow her Facebook page. Her website will be updated soon with new art prints! And she is always accepting direct messages for commission work. If you are interested in being featured as part of our Sunday Spotlight series, click here!
